Welcome to Springfield Health Services where each day unfolds according to the personal choices of our residents.
We don’t have a set routine, each and every resident’s day looks different and it is entirely tailored to the residents wants, needs and preferences.
From waking up to night-time preferences, join us on a day in the life of our residents at Springfield Health Services, as we showcase what makes Springfield and Prinsted a special place to call home.
As soon as residents wake up, it is completely up to each individual how they want to spend their day.
Do they want to get up and have shower before breakfast? Do they want breakfast in bed? Everything is their choice and we promote independence as much as possible.
A resident may need full care, but they might be able to wash their own face and brush their own teeth and so we encourage them to keep that up.
At the beginning of the day, breakfast is served in the dining room from 8am – 10:30am, but if someone wakes up at 4am and would like tea and toast, they can have tea and toast in bed.
Meal times are designed with flexibility and social engagement in mind. Residents can choose to dine in the communal dining room to enjoy the company of others or opt for a quieter meal in their rooms or in one of the many communal areas, where newspapers are delivered daily and they are equipped with TVs and fish tanks.
Or, when the weather’s nice, residents can even eat outside and enjoy the sunshine!
We have activities seven days a week, the first of which is our Daily Chat that takes place with a round of teas and coffees, followed by our main morning activity. Then, it’s lunchtime, followed by an afternoon activity and then supper.
As for when the residents go to bed, it’s entirely up to them, they can stay up all night if they want, although this isn’t an option many residents opt for!
There are no restrictions on visitors and residents can welcome their loved ones anytime in the communal areas, in their room or in our beautiful gardens, a special dining area can be provided to host a guest for dinner or residents can go out with loved ones to visit family homes, for a walk to the local towns or go out for a meal, as long as they’re safe to do so.
We have a lot going on at the home, with visiting faith leaders, animal visits, entertainers, quizzes and much more.
The activities that our residents particularly enjoy are the fitness classes or when Zoo Lab visits and they can interact with unique creatures like giant snails, millipedes and frogs.
DJ Karen is another fan favourite. She is one of our social care assistants and she does a music request show, where anyone is welcome to request their favourite songs, no matter how interesting their musical taste is!
When it’s a resident’s birthday, we really let them call the shots. Our staff get to know everyone so well that they’re able to pick out the perfect birthday present and then they can have a party, we can arrange for their favourite entertainer to come in, or whatever they fancy.
For instance, one resident is a huge fan of our staffs yearly Strictly Come Dancing event, so we threw it on her birthday and let her be the judge!
At Springfield Health Services, we’re really into hearing what our residents think about everything we do, from the meals they eat to their favourite activities. We constantly seek their feedback to ensure everything’s just right.
Our biggest goal is to make our Springfield and Prinsted Care Homes feel just like home, where everyone can freely choose how they want to spend their day, just as they would in their own home.
