Social Activities at Springfield Care Homes: Making everyday enjoyable

At Springfield Care Homes, we understand that social engagement is crucial for the well-being of our residents. We take pride in offering a diverse range of activities every day that are designed to cater to the unique interests and needs of each resident. From in-house activities to outings in the community, we ensure that there is always something exciting and fulfilling happening at Springfield.

In this post, we’d like to introduce you to someone who plays a key role in shaping the social activities at Springfield, Frankie, our Head of Social Care. Frankie has been with Springfield for 7 years, overseeing both Springfield and Prinsted Care Homes, and her role is one that brings immense joy and purpose to the residents every single day. Frankie works together with our team of Rainbows to arrange stimulating and fun activities.

Meet Frankie, Our Head of Social Care

As Head of Social Care, Frankie has dedicated her career to enhancing the well-being of older adults through focused social interactions, cognitive stimulation, and physical fitness. It’s a role she finds incredibly rewarding and one that allows her to connect deeply with the residents she works with.

“I love getting to know the residents personally. Whether it’s over a cuppa or two, spending time listening to their stories and learning about their past helps me plan activities that meet their individual needs. By understanding their personal histories, I can create experiences that not only bring joy but also help combat loneliness and maintain an active lifestyle, which is so important for their happiness and overall quality of life.”

Frankie’s passion for creating meaningful connections is evident in the activities she and the team organises, ensuring they cater to each resident’s preferences and abilities, while promoting socialisation, physical movement, and cognitive health.

A Day in the Life at Springfield: Activities for Everyone

At Springfield, we truly believe that social activities are an essential part of life, especially for older adults. That’s why we offer a wide variety of activities throughout the week to keep our residents engaged, happy, and connected. Some of our favourites include:

  • Mobile Petting Zoos: One of the most enjoyable moments for our residents was when we hosted a mobile petting zoo. It brought the joy of interacting with animals into our care home and created unforgettable memories for everyone.
  • Donkeys in the Lounge at Christmas: We all know Christmas is a time for magic, and having donkeys visit our lounge brought a whole new level of joy to the season. It was a wonderful experience that filled the air with laughter and excitement.
  • Hatching Our Own Ducklings: Another special activity was the chance for our residents to watch ducklings hatch. It was not only fascinating to witness the miracle of new life but also an opportunity for residents to connect with nature and share in the experience.
  • Birthday Celebrations: Birthdays are always an occasion for celebration at Springfield. We love to throw parties for our residents, complete with cake, music, and plenty of smiles.
  • Craft Activities: Our residents are incredibly creative, and we offer a range of craft activities that help them express themselves. From painting to knitting, crafting fosters a sense of accomplishment and allows our residents to bond with each other.
  • Summer Garden Parties: We’re known for our love of a good party, and our summer garden parties are a highlight of the year. With plenty of food, music, and sunshine, these events create a festive atmosphere that brings everyone together for a day of fun and laughter.

Welcoming Binkie and Dinkie: Our New Rabbit Friends

In addition to all the exciting activities we offer, Frankie also arranged the arrival of our two precious dwarf lop-eared rabbits —Binkie and Dinkie. These two adorable rabbits have already made a big impact, bringing comfort and joy to our residents.

“They are wonderful companions,” says Frankie. “They offer a sense of well-being, meaning, and bonding. They’re also fantastic listeners, providing a calming presence for everyone who spends time with them.”

Binkie and Dinkie are a perfect addition to our care home, continuing our mission to create an environment where our residents feel at home, connected, and valued.
